North Korea has suggested the two Koreas stop trading slander from January 30th.
The North’s National Defense Commission announced on Thursday evening what it calls "important proposals" to South Korea through the state-run Korean Central News Agency.
The commission proposed the two Koreas take steps to completely halt all actions offending and blaming each other from January 30th, or the beginning of the lunar New Year. The top military authority led by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un also said it wants improved ties with the South.
In the announcement, Pyongyang also suggested the two sides take actual steps toward fully suspending all hostile military acts against each other. It also urged the South to scrap annual joint military drills with the U.S. set to start from next month.
The commission claimed the South Korean government and the U.S. should not bring nuclear weapons to the Korean Peninsula and proposed devising realistic measures aimed at preventing nuclear disasters.
The commission said if its proposals are realized, all problems surrounding inter-Korean relations, including the resumption of separated family reunions, will be resolved.
