Presidential Office Holds Security Meeting Concerning N. Korea

The presidential office discussed security issues on Thursday following a recent series of visits to military units by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The national security policy coordination meeting focused on Kim’s inspections of special force units on Monday and Thursday, which came after the North made key proposals on improving inter-Korean relations and stopping verbal attacks between the two countries.

President Park Geun-hye said during her visit to India last week that South Korea needs to be thoroughly prepared for North Korea's provocations at times when the communist country stages a charm offensive.

Seoul’s Defense Ministry said Thursday it is taking note of the North Korean leader’s visits to special combat units.

Ministry spokesman Kim Min-seok also said the North has increased the number of its special forces from 100-thousand to nearly 200-thousand over the past several years.
