SI Predicts Korea to Win 5 Gold, Finish 8th in Sochi

With the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics just a week away, media outlets are coming out with medal prospects.

U.S. sports weekly Sports Illustrated (SI) forecast in its Friday issue that South Korea will finish eighth in the Sochi games with five gold, five silver and three bronze medals.

The magazine said figure skater Kim Yu-na will grab her second straight Winter Olympic gold and speed skater Lee Sang-hwa will also likely win gold in the women's 500 meters. It says the other three gold will be reaped in short track skating.

In the medal tally, SI predicts Norway will beat the U.S. in the overall rankings while host country Russia will finish fourth with South Korea and China finishing in the top ranks among Asian countries.

Sports statistics provider Infostrada Sports projected early this month that Korea will win five gold, five silver and four bronze to finish at seventh.
