South Korean athletes who will compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics left for the Russian city on Saturday.
Forty-six athletes and 18 officials headed for Sochi aboard a chartered plane departing from Incheon International Airport at 10:25 a.m. Saturday. More athletes will join them in Sochi later according to their competition schedules.
A total of 71 South Korean athletes will take part in six out of the total seven events at the winter games. South Korea will compete in all events except for ice hockey.
A total of 98 gold medals will be up for grabs in 15 disciplines in seven sports events, including skiing, skating, biathlon, ice hockey, bobsleigh, curling and luge.
The opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics will be held at 8:14 p.m. next Friday. The winter games will run through February 23rd.
South Korea is aiming to win more than four gold medals to rank within the top ten for the third straight time in the Winter Olympics.
