President Kim Dae-jung Tuesday officially declared the arson site in the subway station in Daegu as a special disaster area which deserves financial and tax benefits for rehabilitation. Cheong Wa Dae Spokeswoman Park Sun-sook said Kim issued the instruction as soon as he was briefed on the tragic incident, which caused over 120 deaths. Under the Disaster Management Law, the special disaster area is entitled to receive not only financial and tax benefits but also the state budget for rehabilitation projects.
