The government has unveiled measures to boost domestic tourism in South Korea.
During a tourism promotion meeting chaired by President Park Geun-hye on Monday, the government said it will designate a "Tourism Week" in both the spring and fall.
The "weeks," which are actually both ten-days long, will begin from May 1st and September 25th. During those periods, schools will be encouraged to allow students to take a short break.
The government will also offer a vacation bonus of 400-thousand won to 35-hundred people employed at small to mid-sized companies and vouchers for cultural activities to low-income families to boost demand in the tourism industry.
From this year, the government will designate three cities as a "Tourism City of the Year" and give provincial governments up to two-point-five billion won to spend on tourism for three years.
The government said it hopes to create one million jobs in the domestic tourism industry by 2017.
