Four North Koreans who are seeking asylum in a Japanese school in Beijing Wednesday are likely to fly to Seoul via a third country. Key Japanese media, including the Asahi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun, said the Japanese government has begun discussing the plan with Chinese authorities and the Korean Embassy in Beijing. Tokyo plans to officially request South Korea to accept the four North Koreans. So far, the Japanese government has taken in North Koreans who have a Japanese wife with Japanese citizenship. Japan seemingly is hoping that South Korea will take in the four North Korean asylum-seekers since it has no precedent in receiving asylum-seekers with North Korean citizenship.
