The city's anti-disaster headquarters said Wednesday the number of people reported to be unaccounted for from Tuesday's subway arson in the city of Daegu increased to 350. Controversy is expected in the process of sorting out falsely reported cases of the missing as a provisional tally of bodies recovered from the burned-out subway carriages stood at 72. President-elect Roh Moo-hyun made an inspection at the scene of the accident and hospitals and comforted the injured and the bereaved families of the victims. He also pledged them that he would do his best to find out the cause of the tragic event and see if any man-made or structural loopholes existed. The Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE) said Thursday the government will provide financial assistance of up to 20 million won or $16,700 dollars for households affected by the Daegu subway disaster. It also said workplaces in and around the subway station where the arson occurred whose normal businesses have been hurt by the tragedy, can ask for emergency operating funds from the Industrial Bank of Korea. They are also eligible to receive up to 200 million won in guarantee assistance from the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund and the Korea Technology Credit Guarantee Fund.
