The Sochi Winter Olympics came to a close on Sunday, bringing an end to its 17-day run with a grand closing ceremony. 

Athletes of 88 countries gathered for the ceremony at the Fisht Olympic Stadium as they bid farewells.

South Korea's Pyeongchang, the host of the next winter games, was handed over the Olympic flag during the closing ceremony.

In the biggest Winter Olympics ever held, South Korea finished 13th with three gold, three silver and two bronze medals. 

Team Korea will return home Tuesday afternoon and hold a disbanding ceremony at the Incheon International Airport.
