South Korea's professional soccer season has officially opened.
 
The Hyundai Oilbank K League Classic 2014 opened on Saturday for a nine-month run.
 
Last season’s champions, the Pohang Steelers and runner-up, Ulsan Hyundai, faced off in the opening game of the season. Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors will play against Busan IPark, and FC Seoul will take on the Chunnam Dragons.
 
Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors is considered to be the favorite to win the league this year.
 
Korea Baseball Organization exhibition games also began on Saturday.
 
Four games were played in the afternoon, including a match between the Doosan Bears and Nexen Heroes in Seoul.
 
Each team will play 12 exhibition games over the the next 16 days.
