Daegu police said Monday they had requested 10 arrest warrants to be issued as part of their investigation into last week's subway fire that killed at least 133 people. Among the arrest warrants sought, nine are for subway officials, seven of whom were detained last night by police, while the remaining warrant is for Kim Dae-han, who is believed responsible for starting the blaze. Police are also investigating Daegu Metropolitan Subway Corp. President Yoon Jin-tae and other corporation officials and senior subway employees to determine whether they neglected their duties in dealing with the fire. The 56-year-old Kim is suspected of starting the inferno by setting fire to a container full of inflammable liquid when the subway he was riding pulled in at Jungangno Station at 9:53 a.m. Tuesday. Police also believe the driver of a train that arrived at the opposite platform at the time of the incident, identified as Choi, 39, failed to report the fire to the control center immediately and neglected to take procedures that would have allowed passengers to escape.
