U.S. Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights Issues Robert King will visit South Korea and Japan to discuss North Korean issues.
The U.S. State Department said on Monday King will visit the two countries from April 2 to April 10.
King is known to be planning to touch on various issues regarding North Korea during the upcoming visits to Seoul and Tokyo, including a recent investigation of the U.N. Commission of Inquiry on North Korea's human rights situation.
He is also expected to discuss the release of Kenneth Bae, a Korean American who has been detained in the North since November 2012, and ongoing negotiations between Pyongyang and Tokyo regarding Japanese people abducted by the North.
The State Department said King will meet senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Cabinet Office as well as civic group activists in Tokyo on Thursday and Friday.
King will arrive in Seoul on Monday and stay for three days for meetings with high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Unification, the Presidential Office and lawmakers at the National Assembly. He is also scheduled to make a speech at Ewha Womans University in Seoul.
