Gyeonggi Province to Take Active Steps to Prevent FMD

The Gyeonggi provincial government is taking active steps to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease from North Korea to the northern South Korean Province.

The province announced plans on Tuesday to vaccinate livestock raised at farms in its six cities and counties located near the inter-Korean border. The government and farmers will evenly split the cost of the vaccination.

The North reported the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Pyongyang and North Hwanghae Province to the World Organization for Animal Health in January.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency said 32-hundred pigs have been infected with the disease, which is now spreading across North Korea.
