Organizers of this year’s Asian Games in Incheon have asked the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia to help North Korea to participate in the sports event.
Chairman of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee, Kim Young-soo made the request to IOC President Thomas Bach and OCA President Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah in a three-way meeting held in Kuwait on Tuesday. It was the first time South Korean organizers of the Incheon Asian Games have discussed the North’s participation with the IOC.
The IOC chief promised full support to in bringing North Korean athletes to the Incheon Asian Games.
In addition to discussions about the North, changes to the Asian games torch relay were also discussed. The organizing committee plans to light the flame on August 9th in New Delhi, India, which hosted the first Asian Games in 1951.
The OCA said it will provide financial support of 75-thousand U.S. dollars to the organizing committee for the relay of the Asian Games torch overseas.
