VOA: Canada Donates $2.7 Mln to WFP's N. Korea Projects

The Voice of America (VOA) says Canada donated two-point-seven million dollars to projects of the U.N. World Food Program (WFP) related to North Korea.

The WFP’s representative in North Korea, Dierk Stegen, told VOA on Wednesday that the WFP plans to use Canada’s donation to buy flour and corn to make nutritious foods.

Stegen said around three-point-two million dollars in emergency funds allocated by the U.N. Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) was delivered to the WFP last month.

In March, the WFP distributed 16-hundred tons of processed foodstuffs and nutritious cookies to one million children and pregnant women in the North’s nine provinces.

The VOA also said last month's food aid to the North from the WFP was the smallest it has been in the past year.
