S. Korea's Nuke Envoy Hints at Holding Bilateral Talks with Japan

South Korea’s new chief delegate to the six-way nuclear talks has hinted at holding bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart on North Korea’s nuclear issue.

Hwang Joon-kook told reporters there is a possibility such bilateral talks will take place when he arrived on Sunday at Dulles International Airport in Washington. He added no exact time has been set.

Hwang’s comments apparently reflect Seoul’s position that it will address the North’s nuclear issue and historical issues separately .

Hwang will meet on Monday, local time, with U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy Glyn Davies and Junichi Ihara, director of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau.
