Prime Minister Chung Hong-won says he is aware multiple studies indicate the economic benefits of South-North unification will be twice the cost.
 
Chung made the remark at a National Assembly hearing while answering a question on the economic effects of unification. He added the cost and the benefit may vary depending on the time and the method of unification.
 
He said it is difficult to speak about unification expenses publicly because the estimates vary widely, ranging from 55 trillion won to 270 trillion won depending on the method of research and time of unification. He added the finance and unification ministries are conducting research based on various scenarios.
