RFA: Russia to Export Coal Through N. Korea's Rajin Port

Radio Free Asia says Russia plans to export coal to China through North Korea’s Rajin Port.

Quoting Russian media, Radio Free Asia said Thursday that Russian Railways moved around nine-thousand tons of coal from mines in Kuzbass, western Siberia, to Rajin Port late last month. The report said the coal is expected to be exported to China’s eastern regions, including Shanghai and Guangzhou.

The report said the plan to export coal comes as Russia makes final inspections of railways connecting the North Korean port city of Rajin to Russia’s border city of Khasan and customs and cargo operations on those lines. Such activity comes ahead of the official launch of Rajin Port’s operations.

Russia and North Korea renovated 54 kilometers of railways connecting Rajin and Khasan for five years and reopened the railways last September.
