Korean Culture Center in LA to Host Exhibit Marking LA Riots

Korean and African American artists in the U.S. will hold an exhibition to mark the 22nd anniversary of the 1992 Los Angeles Riots.

The exhibit will be held at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles from Friday to April 30th. Four Korean-American artists, 12 African Americans and a Taiwanese American artist will take part in the event.

They will showcase some 40 art works under the theme "Visual Exchange: Artists Share Ideas, We Enhance our Lives."

The exhibit is aimed at helping different ethnic communities share their culture and understanding for reconciliation through art.

Curator Choi Hee-seon organized the event with visual artist Dale Brockman Davis. She says the LA riots may be history to those who were not involved but the scars from the unrest remain in the Korean community. She added the exhibition aims to refresh the hope that such a riot never happens again.
