The South Korean government said it will continue to pursue President Park Geun-hye's so-called Dresden Initiative announced during her state visit to Germany last month despite harsh rejection by Pyongyang.
Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Eui-do said in a news briefing Monday that there is nothing new about the North's criticism of the initiative in its National Defense Commission's statement announced on Saturday.
He said South Korea will show the sincerity of the Dresden Initiative through actions and will continue to make necessary preparations to carry out the initiative.
On North Korea's harsh criticism of President Park, Kim said there is no need to respond any further as South Korea has already made its position clear.
Kim also said the defense ministry is certain that North Korea is behind the recently found spy drones based on analysis of the evidence, despite the North's claim that the drone investigation is a fabrication.
