S.Korea Repatriates Body of Sailor to N.Korea

South Korea has repatriated the body of a North Korean sailor who was on board a Mongolian cargo ship that sank off the southern coast earlier this month.

The Unification Ministry in Seoul said on Monday that the body was sent back to the North through the truce village of Panmunjeom on Monday afternoon.

The repatriation came three days after the North confirmed the man’s identity.

Seoul asked Pyongyang on Friday to help identify the man by sending photos of the body through the truce village.

The Mongolia-registered cargo ship sank off the coast of the South Korean city of Yeosu on April 4. The entire 16-man crew was North Korean.

On April 6, Seoul repatriated three sailors who were rescued right after the accident, along with the bodies of two others.
