North Korea has offered to conduct a joint investigation of three drones that recently crashed into South Korea, and denied Pyongyang sent the unmanned aerial vehicles.
The North's state-run Korean Central News Agency quoted a statement issued by the National Defense Commission on Monday as saying Seoul is fabricating a "second Cheonan incident" out of the drone incident.
Seoul blames North Korea for the sinking of the South Korean naval vessel Cheonan in March 2010. Forty-six South Korean sailors died in the incident, but Pyongyang denies any involvement.
The commission also dismissed the result of Seoul's investigation into the drones as unscientific and unrealistic.
In the statement, the National Defense Commission said the North remains unchanged in its position to jointly investigate all cases, including the Cheonan, as the South claims the North was involved.
The commission suggested Kim Jang-soo, the national security chief at South Korea’s presidential office, head the South Korean mission to the joint investigation.
