South Korea’s badminton association has reinstated an Olympic medalist after he was suspended for a year for missing doping tests.
The Badminton Korea Association held a news conference Tuesday and announced Lee Yong-dae’s one-year suspension had been lifted. The association also lifted the year suspension of badminton player Kim Ki-jung, who was also penalized for missing doping tests.
The association said the Badminton World Federation's Doping Hearing Panel re-deliberated the case on Monday and decided to lift the suspensions.
Lee and Kim had been suspended since January 24th after failing to report their whereabouts to the federation and missing three doping tests as a result.
The Badminton Korea Association appealed to the federation saying the players were not at fault and cited an administrative blunder by the association. It said the players were not properly informed about the doping tests and they did not miss the tests on purpose.
With the ban reversed, Lee and Kim can now compete in the Asian Games this year in Korea's Incheon City.
