The government will designate the first eleven days of May as a "tourism week" to boost domestic tourism in South Korea.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism says from May first to the eleventh, one-thousand-100 hotels and restaurants across South Korea will offer discounts to tourists.
Travel agencies will also offer special and promotional tour programs.
In cooperation with business organizations such as the Federation of Korean Industries, the government will encourage workers to take vacations during this time. The ministry will also offer a vacation bonus to employees of small to mid-sized companies.
The government will strengthen the monitoring of businesses participating in the tourism week. It will also seek to increase the operations of flights and the KTX, South Korea's high-speed rail.
A ministry official said if all South Koreans travel for one more day a year, the additional combined spending will be two-point-five trillion won and help create 50-thousand jobs.
The official added the government will run another tourism week in September based on the success of May's week.
