KORAIL Chief Departs for Beijing to Attend Meeting in N. Korea

The head of the Korea Railroad Corporation has departed for China to attend a meeting of the Organization for Cooperation between Railways set to open in Pyongyang on Thursday.

Choi Yeon-hye left for Beijing aboard an 8:10 a.m. flight on Monday at Incheon International Airport.

Asked by reporters on the significance of her trip to North Korea, Choi only said she is going to the North to attend the meeting, and said no details have been set for her stay or for the upcoming meeting in Pyongyang.

Choi will attend a regular meeting of the Organization for Cooperation between Railways set for April 24-28. The Korea Railroad Corporation is an affiliate member of the organization.

The Unification Ministry in Seoul announced earlier it approved a request by Choi and her delegation to visit the North and take part in the railway organization’s meeting.

The ministry said it hopes Choi’s visit will help boost cooperation between the Korea Railroad Corporation and members of the railway body.

The organization is comprised of 27 member states, including North Korea, Russia and China, as well as Eastern European and Central Asian countries.
