KORAIL Chief Returns After Rare Visit to N. Korea

The head of South Korea's state rail company returned to the South on Monday after a rare visit to North Korea.

Choi Yeon-hye, president and CEO of the Korea Railroad Corp. (KORAIL), visited Pyongyang for a week to attend a meeting of the Organisation for Co-operation between Railways (OSJD).

KORAIL said Choi proposed Seoul host the 2019 Conference of the General Directors of the OSJD. The organization accepted her suggestion through a plenary vote.

Choi also asked the OSJD to grant Korea a formal membership. South Korea is an associate member of the international rail body, while North Korea, China and Russia are formal members.

KORAIL added Choi exchanged opinions regarding inter-Korean cooperation in rail businesses during the meeting in Pyongyang.
