Trade Between N.Korea and EU Increased in 2013

Voice of America (VOA) reports the trade volume between North Korea and the European Union increased last year.

The Washington-based VOA reported Wednesday that North Korea’s trade volume with the European Union was worth more than 100 million euros last year, up 34 times from three million euros in 2012.

The trade volume between the EU and North Korea halved in 2012 from 160 million euros in 2011, but rebounded to 140 million euros last year. The rebound is attributed to a surge in North Korea’s exports of mineral resources.

North Korea’s imports from the EU stood at 27 million euros last year, down 66 percent from the previous year.

The North imported 15-million euro-worth of machinery and electronic devices and four-million-euro-worth of chemical products in 2013.
