Lawmakers have identified hundreds of thousands of additional people who allegedly were conscripted as forced laborers by Imperial Japan last century. The list was announced by Representative Kim Hee-sun of the ruling Millennium Democratic Party. Lawmakers are tallying the number of victims in the hope that a comprehensive list will help victims or their families receive compensation from Japan. Japan& 039 s military seized many Koreans, Chinese, and people from other Asian countries during World War II and shipped them to Japan to work under brutal conditions in coal mines and ports. Hundreds of thousands of others were forced into military service or sexual slavery for Japanese troops.
