Goryeong, Cremona to Enhance Cultural Exchanges in Music

A Korean county famous for the gayageum, a traditional string instrument is seeking greater exchanges with an Italian city that is a home to a master violin maker.

Goryeong County of North Gyeongsang Province is planning to welcome Cremona, Italy as its sister city in the second half of this year as part of efforts to boost bilateral cultural exchanges.

North Gyeongsang Province and Goryeong County will hold a concert featuring violin and gayageum performances and will also host an international string instrument festival.

Goryeong is the birthplace of Ureuk, a legendary musician of the ancient Gaya Kingdom who developed the gayageum. Cremona is the birthplace of Antonio Stradivari, one of the greatest crafters of string instruments including violins, violas and cellos.
