Football Star Park Ji-sung Announces Retirement

Korea's leading football star Park Ji-sung has announced his retirement.

Park held a news conference on Wednesday in Suwon, at the JS Football Center which was named after his initials.

The 33-year-old midfielder said due to a serious knee injury, he has been thinking about retiring since February. He said he gave his best in his career and has no regrets.

Park also added he will get married on July 27th. 

Park Ji-sung made his professional debut in Japan's J-League, with the Kyoto Purple Sanga in 2000. He started getting more international attention following the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan.

He then followed Manager Guus Hiddink to the Netherlands to join the Dutch football club PSV Eindhoven, playing between 2003 and 2005, and getting even more attention for his success.

In the summer of 2005, Park joined Manchester United of the English Premier League playing seven seasons until he moved to Queens Park Rangers in 2012. 

Under contract with Queens Park Rangers, Park was loaned back to PSV Eindhoven this past season. He played his last official match on May 3.

For the South Korean Men's National Team, Park played and scored in three consecutive FIFA World Cups, including when he led the national squad as its captain in 2010.

Park ends his career as one of the greatest footballers in South Korean history.
