A North Korean poet who defected to South Korea has claimed that the communist regime is actually led by the North Korean Workers’ Party’s organization guidance department, not by the military as many believe.

Jang Jin-song told an interview with American broadcaster NBC that the North's most important organ that makes decisions or policies is the party's organization guidance department.

Jang said that the guidance department is regarded as the party’s most powerful organization, along with the propaganda department, adding that the guidance department's was created only to assist the North Korean leader.
