Cardinal Yeom Visits Gaeseong Industrial Complex in N. Korea

Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung has embarked on a one-day trip to the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea.

Leading a seven-member delegation, Yeom entered the North Wednesday morning through the Dorasan Inter-Korea Transit Office in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.

An official of the Archdiocese of Seoul said Yeom plans to meet with Catholics working in South Korean companies in the inter-Korean industrial park.

Yeom will pray with the group of Catholics in the complex after he is briefed by the Gaeseong industrial park management committee.

Yeom, who concurrently serves as the Apostolic Administrator of
the Dioceses of Pyongyang, is the first Catholic cardinal to visit North Korea.

Yeom’s trip to the North comes as Pope Francis is set to visit South Korea in August.
