WFP Chief Visiting Two Koreas This Week

World Food Program (WFP) Executive Director Ertharin Cousin is meeting with authorities from both Koreas this week.

Radio Free Asia quoted North Korean media saying Cousin arrived in North Korea on Monday and met with the North's parliamentary chief, Kim Yong-nam, and Foreign Minister Ri Su-yong. The North Korean media, however, did not elaborate on what was said in the meeting.

After wrapping up her trip to the North, Cousin will visit South Korea on Thursday and Friday. She will meet with government officials to discuss ways to provide humanitarian aid to North Korea.

Cousin, who became the chief of the WFP in April 2012, is visiting the North for the first time. The last time a head of the WFP visited the communist state was in November 2010.

The WFP is set to provide special nutritional products to two-point-four million children and pregnant women in the North until the end of June 2015.
