Cardinal Yeom Returns from Trip to Gaeseong Complex

South Korea’s Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung has returned from a visit to the inter-Korean industrial park in North Korea's border city of Gaeseong.

It marked the first visit to the North by a South Korean cardinal.

The cardinal returned to the South through the Dorasan Inter-Korea Transit Office in Paju, Gyeonggi Province at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Yeom told reporters that he believes peace will come if people with good will make sincere efforts through dialogue. He also said  during his visit that he saw a hope that the two sides could overcome the pains and sorrows of the past.

Yeom, who concurrently serves as the Apostolic Administrator of the Dioceses of Pyongyang, visited the complex at the request of South Korean Catholics working there.

Reverend Huh Young-yeop, PR chief of the Archdiocese of Seoul, said that Yeom did not contact North Korean officials during the trip.
