Gov't to Pursue Building Renewable Energy Facility in Gaeseong

The South Korean government plans to build a renewable energy facility in the inter-Korean industrial park in North Korea's border city of Gaeseong.

The Unification Ministry said the government is aiming to implement phase one of the project this year.

The government plans to start by installing solar panels on rooftops and water purification and drainage facilities to produce one megawatt of electricity by the end of this year. Its goal is to expand electricity production to 20 megawatts.

The government is currently reviewing local laws related to renewable energy facilities. It plans to begin negotiations with the North shortly.
