Pres. Park Urges N. Korea to Stop Nuclear Activities to Show Sincerity

President Park Geun-hye urged North Korea to stop its nuclear activities to show that it is sincere about moving forward with the stalled six-party talks.

Park made the call in a meeting with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the presidential office on Monday. She said the North should stop threatening to launch another nuclear test and operating its nuclear facility in Yongbyun if it is sincere about resuming the talks.

The president said she would discuss the North’s denuclearization more in-depth with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during his trip set to take place as early as June. Park also thanked the Chinese government for its efforts to build trust on the Korean Peninsula.

Wang said he would do his best to ensure that Xi’s visit to Seoul would become a milestone in the relationship between South Korea and China.

Wang's two-day trip to Seoul is his first visit to Korea since taking office as China's Foreign Minister in 2013.
