S. Korea to Offer Contracts to Write Report on DMZ Peace Park

The South Korean government says it will offer contracts to write reports on plans to build a peace park in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

The unification ministry said Thursday that the South and North Exchange and Cooperation Promotion Council voted to allocate 632 million won to four studies on plans to build the DMZ World Peace Park.

The studies will cover park building strategies, methods to minimize the environmental impact of removing landmines and drafting legislation for the park.

The ministry said it will take inter-Korean relations into consideration and offer the contracts in steps to avoid wasting the budget. The government plans to proceed with President Park Geun-hye's proposal to build the park, even though North Korea has officially refused to take part in the project.
