South and North Korean Protestant Churches to Discuss Peace in Geneva

The protestant churches of South and North Korea are expected to meet in Geneva, Switzerland in June to discuss peace on the Korean peninsula.

The National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) says the meeting will be held as part of a larger meeting for peace and reconciliation on the Korean peninsula hosted by the World Council of Churches (WCC).

The event will be attended by the members of the council, which includes the North's Korean Christian Federation.

If the bilateral meeting takes place it would be the first meeting of protestant church leaders of both Koreas since they last met in Pyongyang in 2011.

The NCCK says that the upcoming meeting is a follow-up to the Busan general assembly of the WCC held in November.

The meeting will discuss international solidarity and ways to cooperate for peace and reunification of the Korean peninsula.
