RFA: N. Korea-US Trade Volume Surged Between Jan. and April

Radio Free Asia (RFA) says North Korea and the U.S. are seeing their bilateral trade volume surge rapidly this year.

Quoting a document from the U.S. Commerce Department, RFA said Thursday that the trade volume between the North and the U.S. amounted to 17-point-nine million dollars between January and April. The amount is two-point-seven times larger than the six-point-six million in bilateral trade volume posted for 2013.

The report said U.S. exports to the North made up all of the bilateral trade volume between the January and April period. It added the U.S. exports were comprised mainly of aid supplies provided by private organizations.

The report forecast that if the growth continues until the end of the year, the North Korea-U.S. trade volume for this year could come close to the record 52-point-one million dollars posted in 2008.
