Seoul has proposed inter-Korean talks to discuss pending issues regarding the joint Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea.
Seoul proposed that an inter-Korean committee on the operation of the Gaeseong park convene a meeting this Thursday.
An official of Seoul's Unification Ministry said it is important to boost global competitiveness of the factory park and ensure safe operations. The official added the North's lack of response is delaying its constructive normalization as well as foreign investment in Gaeseong.
The official added that if North Korea remains committed to developing the complex, it should swiftly respond.
The inter-Korean joint committee on the Gaeseong complex convenes once every quarter as a rule. But it has not convened for nearly half a year since the last meeting in December.
South Korea wants to hold talks to discuss issues such as full introduction of an electronic entry system currently running on trial. But Pyongyang has shown little eagerness for any dialogue since South Korea and the U.S. held joint defense drills in February.
