RFA: AFP to Set up Office in Pyongyang By End of This Year

Radio Free Asia (RFA) says the French news agency, Agence France-Presse (AFP), plans to set up an office in Pyongyang by the end of this year.

On Friday, RFA quoted a report issued Tuesday by the French daily Le Point.

The issue of setting up an AFP office in Pyongyang was likely discussed when a delegation including AFP's Global News Director Philippe Massonnet, visited the North Korean capital in mid-April.

Last December during a visit to South Korea, AFP's CEO Emmanuel Hoog told Yonhap News Agency that efforts are under way to build an office in Pyongyang.

Currently, the Associated Press (AP) of the United States, and Japan’s Kyodo News have offices there.

Kyodo News established its office in September 2006 and the AP in January 2012.
