Red Devils to Cheer at Gwanghwamun Plaza

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has approved the request by the the Korean football team's official cheering squad to use downtown Gwanghwamun Plaza as the venue for street cheering during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Korea's "Red Devils" supporters will gather at the plaza for the first match against Russia June 18, the second with Algeria on the 23 and then with Belgium on the 27 to cheer for the national team.

The decision was made Thursday after talks with related agencies including the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

During previous high profile football events, the Red Devils had used Seoul Plaza, outside City Hall, for their street cheering. But they've been contemplating a new location as the memorial altar for the Sewol ferry victims has been set up there.
