Joseon Delegation Parade Likely to Resume in Japan This Year

A reenactment of a parade of the Joseon Dynasty’s diplomatic missions to Japan will likely resume in Tsushima this year, after the yearly event had been called off last year.

Japan’s Kyodo News Agency reports that a residents’ organization of Tsushima City has decided to resume the reenactment on August 3.

The annual parade was part of events designed to promote exchanges and friendship with South Korea, but the event was called off last year after treasured Buddha statues had been stolen from a temple in the city in 2012. The thieves were captured in South Korea after they had sought to sell the statues.

Tsushima has now decided to resume the event, noting a South Korean civic organization’s request for Seoul to return the stolen statues to Japan.
