The World Heritage Committee will likely announce its decision this weekend on whether to include a mountain fortress southeast of Seoul in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Gyeonggi Province said on Monday that the committee opened a meeting on Sunday in Qatar to deliberate 40 candidate sites from Friday through Sunday, including South Korea's Namhansanseong fortress.

The fortress is placed 24th in the order of deliberation among the 40 candidates, with the results likely to come around Saturday.

The provincial government expects a positive result given that the UNESCO International Council on Monuments and Sites recommended the fortress' inclusion in the list after conducting a survey.
