Report: President Park Geun-hye held a summit with Uzbek President Islam Karimov in Tashkent on Tuesday to find ways to deepen bilateral ties.

The two leaders discussed bilateral economic projects under way in the Central Asian country.

Both sides agreed to continue existing economic projects, such as the development of the Surgil gas field and the construction of a thermal power plant in Talimarjan.

The two leaders also agreed to cooperate in new economic projects, including developing the Kandym gas field in the Bukhara region worth some four billion dollars.

Park and Karimov also discussed boosting cooperation in construction, infrastructure and textile industries.

During the summit, Uzbekistan expressed support for President Park’s vision of Korean unification that she proposed in Germany, and toward her “Eurasia Initiative” that seeks to closely bind European and Asian countries together to create an economic bloc and a region of peace.

The two sides signed a basic agreement on economic aid. Under the agreement, Korea will help Uzbekistan's economic development through grants and loans and Uzbekistan will foster favorable conditions for Korean firms to advance in the Central Asian country.

Earlier on Monday, Park met with Korean residents in the country and vowed to expand cooperative ties with Central Asian nations to open a new future for Eurasian cooperation.
