North Korea has failed to respond to South Korea's proposal of holding a joint committee meeting to discuss managing the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in the North.
South Korea’s Unification Ministry said Wednesday that the North’s liaison office at the truce village of Panmunjeom closed daily operations on Wednesday without giving any response to Seoul's proposal. The ministry proposed last week that the two sides hold the quarterly meeting this Thursday.
The meeting, which has been suspended since December 19, is unlikely to be held in the second quarter as well. The two Koreas had agreed to set up the joint committee and hold a regular meeting every quarter to discuss ways to effectively manage the industrial park.
Seoul plans to hold the meeting soon to discuss full introduction of an electronic entry system and the issue of Internet connection. However, Pyongyang remains passive to hold discussions since the February joint military drills between the South and the U.S.
