Boryeong City in South Chungcheong Province will showcase its trademark mud festival in a tomato-throwing festival in Spain.
The Boryeong city government said it will set up a zone at the upcoming Tomatina Festival in the Spanish city of Bunol in August so visitors can experience the annual mud festival.
Boryeong will use one ton of mud powder for the event. The cargo of mud left Boryeong on Thursday and will arrive in the Spanish city on August 10.
Bunol will start holding related events a week before the tomato festival. The Korean mud festival will be held on August 25 at a plaza in front of Bunol City Hall and feature programs such as a mud bath and mud slide.
Boryeong and Bunol swapped the banners of their festival Web sites in 2010 and signed an agreement on exchanging their festival programs in 2013. In accordance with the agreement, the Spanish city showcased its tomato festival in last year’s Boryeong Mud Festival.
