The Korea Post said Thursday that an international collection of rare stamps will be displayed at the Phila Korea World Stamp Exhibition to be held August 7 to 12 in Seoul.
The exhibition will feature some of the most expensive stamps in the world, such as the Inverted Jenny and the two-cent British Guiana stamp.
The Inverted Jenny is a U.S. postage stamp issued in 1918 in which the image of the Curtiss JN-4 airplane appears upside down. It was 24 cents at the time of issuance, but is worth more than one-point-five billion won at present.
The two-cent British Guiana stamp issued in 1852 was intended to be rose in color, but was printed blue. It is now worth one billion won.
A rare envelope called the String of Pearls is worth about two billion won. Attached to the envelope are nine "5 Candarin Large Dragon" stamps issued in 1878 in China.
The Mauritius "Post Office" stamp, mistakenly printed "Post Paid," is worth one-point-two billion won.
The exhibition will commemorate 130 years of Korea's postal history. Over 500 stamps from some 70 countries will be on display. The exhibition will feature around 100 booths selling stamps from all over the world.
