Korea Trails Algeria 3-0 at Half Time

In Korea's second match of the Brazil World Cup, the team was down by three goals against Algeria at halftime.

At Beira-Rio stadium in Porto Alegre, Team Korea snuffed out early Algeria threat but was never able to get any momentum going before surrendering three goals in the space of 13 minutes.

Islam Slimani beat the Korean defense on a fast counterattack in the 26th minute thanks to a through pass from Carl Medjani. He dribbled home past two Korean defenders, Kim Young-gwon and Hong Jeong-ho. In the 28th minute, Rafik Halliche scored on a Abdelmoume Djabou corner kick as goalie Jung Sung-ryong was awkward in his attempt to parry it. Djabou extended the lead in the 39th minute on a Slimani pass.

Korea is ranked 57th by FIFA while Algeria is 22nd.

A victory in the match would put Korea in a much better position to win its second consecutive berth to the Round of 16.

Belgium, the top ranked team in Group H, reached the knockout stage first with a 1-0 victory over Russia on Divock Origi's 88th-minute goal earlier the day. The victory leaves Belgium at top the group standings with six points. Russia meanwhile has only one point from a 1-1 draw with Korea on July 18.

Russia will play Algeria in their Group H closer on Friday, while Korea will face Belgium at the same time.
