Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, the first joint university between South and North Korea, held its first graduation ceremony on Saturday.

Forty-three students received master’s degrees in information and communications technology, industrial management and agricultural engineering and food engineering.

A large number of the graduates plan to leave for Europe, including Britain and Switzerland, to continue their studies.

Around 100 more students will graduate in September.

The school is the only private university in North Korea, founded by South Korea's Northeast Asia Foundation for Education and Culture and the North's education ministry in October 2010.

Some 80 professors at the university are from Western countries, including the United States, Canada and Britain, and teach classes in English.
